Budapest District IV — Újpest

Újpest was not born as a Budapest neighborhood. It grew as an independent industrial settlement north of Pest, became a city with its own civic institutions and factories, and joined Greater Budapest only in 1950. This walk follows town hall, church and synagogue architecture, the water tower, railway and industrial sites to explain how a ‘new Pest’ created a strong identity that still survives annexation.
