Budapest District X — Kőbánya

Kőbánya literally means ‘stone quarry’, and the district’s defining monument is partly underground. Limestone extraction left a vast cellar system later exploited by wine merchants and brewers; rail and factories turned the area into one of Budapest’s great production districts. This tour connects the cellars, Dreher, Lechner’s Szent László Church, Conti Chapel, worker housing, freight infrastructure and post-industrial parks to reveal a Budapest built from geology upward.
