Jakováli Hassan Pasha Mosque is especially important because its minaret survives beside the prayer hall. Pécs tourism describes it as the only surviving medieval Turkish mosque in Hungary where mosque and minaret remain together in this form.
The interior now functions as a museum and, at times, a place connected to Muslim religious use depending on current arrangements.
Ottoman Pécs lasted roughly a century and a half. Mosques, baths and schools reshaped the city, while Christian communities continued under changed conditions.
After Habsburg reconquest, many Islamic buildings were destroyed or converted.
Survival therefore needs explanation. What remains is not a proportional sample of what once existed; it is what later politics, utility and preservation happened to spare.
