The Karolina Chapel is valuable precisely because it is not monumental. Small chapels show how devotional architecture occupied routes and neighborhoods beyond the city’s major ecclesiastical institutions.
Notice how the sacred building meets the street: forecourt, tower, cemetery, parish rooms and neighboring houses reveal how worship was embedded in community life.
A sacred building is also evidence of collective resources: land, craftsmen, donations and long-term maintenance had to be mobilized before worship could become monumental.
The commercial value of this stop is specificity. It explains something a visitor would otherwise pass without understanding, while remaining recognizable to residents.
