VAATS’s main square is unusual in Hungary for its elongated triangular form. Baroque rebuilding after earlier destruction turned it into the civic stage of the episcopal town.
Turn slowly through the full space. Street width, corner treatment, building height and sightlines often reveal the planning logic more clearly than any plaque.
A useful way to read the space is to imagine it at three times of day—market morning, working afternoon and ceremonial evening. Different functions become visible in each.
The route uses this site as evidence that local history was produced by several systems at once—institutions, households, landscape and movement.
The next stop, VAATS Town Hall: Civic Government on the Bishop’s Square, shifts the route toward civic, so keep the contrast in mind.
