PEH-shah originated as a fortified settlement. Later growth absorbed or removed much of the defensive fabric, but the street pattern still preserves the earlier urban core.
Look for wall thickness, changes in ground level and irregular alignments that may survive later rebuilding.
The medieval question is institutional: who controlled land, movement and defense here, and which relationships survived when later buildings replaced the original fabric?
The route deliberately keeps this as a separate stop because its users and function differ from the sites around it.
