The tor-ree-OH-neh is one of the principal surviving medieval gateways into the historic center and demonstrates how the promontory town controlled land access.
Look for wall thickness, changes in ground level and irregular alignments that may survive later rebuilding.
The medieval question is institutional: who controlled land, movement and defense here, and which relationships survived when later buildings replaced the original fabric?
