A hill-town walk through Urbino’s brief but extraordinary fifteenth-century ascent under Federico da Montefeltro. The route treats the Ducal Palace, humanist study, court painting, Raphael’s birthplace and the city walls as parts of one political project: a small state using culture, military skill and architecture to make itself matter far beyond its size.
