Cádiz

Cádiz began as Phoenician Gadir and repeatedly prospered by facing outward: toward Mediterranean trade, Roman Atlantic routes, Spain’s American empire and, during the Napoleonic crisis, a liberal constitutional experiment. This walk treats the ocean as infrastructure rather than scenery and explains why 1812 mattered without pretending it created modern democracy overnight.
