Memphis — Cotton, Beale Street & Civil Rights

Memphis grew where river transport, cotton, Black labor and commerce met. This route connects the Mississippi and cotton exchange to Beale Street’s Black business and music culture, then follows the 1968 sanitation strike from Clayborn Temple to the Lorraine Motel and Mason Temple, showing why Martin Luther King Jr.’s final campaign was about labor dignity as much as civil rights.
