San Antonio — Missions, River & Alamo

San Antonio’s most famous battlefield began as one mission within a much larger Spanish colonial system. This route starts downtown and follows the river south through the UNESCO-listed mission landscape, centering Indigenous communities, acequia engineering, Spanish and Mexican rule, the Texas Revolution and the later construction of Alamo mythology.
