Gjirokastër’s bazaar occupies a steep junction where streets spread like spokes. That geometry turned awkward terrain into commercial advantage. Shops could catch traffic moving between neighborhoods, the castle and roads into the valley. The present fabric is largely the product of rebuilding after fires, so it should not be imagined as an untouched medieval market. What survived is the commercial logic: narrow frontages, workshops below, rooms above and streets shaped for people and pack animals rather than vehicles. The bazaar also linked elite households to the wider economy. Tower houses projected family status, but that status depended on land, administration, trade and the labor moving through streets like these.
