Transcript
Ars Electronica grew from a festival launched in 1979 around art, technology and society. The centre on the Danube made that experimental identity permanent.
It is a logical evolution for an industrial city: Linz moved from making physical materials at scale to asking what digital technology does to culture and daily life. The institution is not a rejection of engineering. It is engineering becoming a subject of public debate.
