The castle above the rivers controlled a strategic point long before industrial capitalism transformed Steyr. Its later Baroque form reflects reconstruction after fire and changing noble use.
The castle reminds us that trade did not operate in a political vacuum. Lords, rulers and administrators collected rights and revenue from the same routes merchants used. Commerce and territorial power grew around the same geography.
