The Pont de les Peixateries Velles was built in the nineteenth century by Gustave Eiffel’s company before the Eiffel Tower made the engineer’s name globally famous. Its lattice of iron is light, repetitive and unmistakably industrial.

The bridge belongs to a different Girona from the cathedral steps. Railways, metal fabrication and modern urban circulation were changing how cities connected neighbourhoods across rivers.

Today the structure frames one of Girona’s most photographed views, but its value is not merely photogenic. It demonstrates how industrial materials entered historic centres and became heritage in their own right.
