Bayeux’s Reporters’ Memorial commemorates journalists killed while doing their work in conflicts around the world. It grew in connection with the Bayeux Calvados-Normandy Award for war correspondents, founded decades after the 1944 liberation.
The memorial extends Bayeux’s war memory beyond soldiers. Modern conflict is also experienced through photographers, camera crews and reporters who decide what distant audiences can see. Some are deliberately targeted because controlling information is itself a weapon.
