The viaduct is the modern answer to a problem the castle hill had always imposed: the valley makes direct movement difficult. Built in the twentieth century, the bridge allowed road traffic to cross the Séd valley high above the older routes.
That changed the logic of Veszprém. Medieval infrastructure adapted itself to the hill; modern engineering could leap over the landscape instead. The bridge is therefore more than a photogenic viewpoint. It marks the moment when expansion, motor traffic and regional connection became more important than the defensive advantages that had first made the hill valuable.
