Wrocław’s past includes Piast, Bohemian, Habsburg, Prussian and German Breslau before the city became Polish in 1945. The transition after the Second World War involved devastation, German flight and expulsion, and the arrival of Poles — many themselves displaced from lands annexed by the Soviet Union.
