Queen’s Garden is named for a hoodoo said to resemble Queen Victoria. Whether you see a queen depends on your angle and your willingness to cooperate with the name.
This tendency has a psychological basis: humans are pattern-seeking animals. Once someone supplies a label, an ambiguous rock becomes difficult not to see that way.
At Bryce, naming also helped tourism. Individual forms became characters in a landscape that visitors could remember, describe and photograph.
The useful distinction is between cultural interpretation and geological cause. The spire formed through erosion; the queen exists in the viewer. Both are real parts of the visitor experience, but only one belongs to earth science.
