Saint-Pierre stands between the castle and commercial city. Its long construction history mixes Gothic and Renaissance work, reflecting the wealth and changing taste of urban parishioners rather than a single royal patron.
The church’s spire was damaged in 1944 and later restored. That makes the building a bridge between medieval Caen and the reconstructed city around it.
