Ohrid

Ohrid combines an ancient lakeside city with one of the major centres of medieval Slavic Christian literacy. Associated with Saints Clement and Naum, the Ohrid Literary School helped spread Old Church Slavonic learning and worship. This guide avoids the common overclaim that Cyrillic was simply 'invented in Ohrid' and places literacy inside Byzantine, Bulgarian and later imperial politics.
