Ludwik Geyer’s White Factory marks a decisive step in the mechanization of Łódź textiles. The entrepreneur from Saxony developed one of the city’s earliest large industrial complexes and introduced steam-powered production. A factory chimney changed more than the skyline. Steam reduced dependence on local water power, allowed machinery to be concentrated at scale and accelerated the rhythm of work. The official tourism portal presents Geyer as a pioneer of the city’s textile industry. Today the building houses the Central Museum of Textiles, which is an appropriate afterlife: the machine that once produced cloth now explains the system that produced Łódź. Industrial heritage here is not nostalgia for brick walls. It is the history of energy, labor discipline and mass production.
