Tomar
Tomar grew around the military and religious institutions of the Templars and their successor, the Order of Christ, but the city cannot be reduced to crusader imagery. Synagogue, parish church, mills, aqueduct and convent all reveal how royal policy, overseas expansion, minority life and hydraulic infrastructure reshaped the same small urban centre over centuries.
